I am super sad to be missing out on this year’s Pick Me Up at Somerset House (which I was lucky enough to participate in the first and second years of along with my Evening Tweed cohorts). I’ll be there in spirit however, as People of Print will be printing tees live at the show with designs from 11 designers/illustrators, including this little castle chap of mine.
Great news! You can now pick up all the work from the Triforce Tribute show (including my letterpress ‘Inventory’ print, seen above but not mine, as it just sold out) right here!
Thanks to everybody who came out to the opening night at Land, and to Jolby and Always With Honor for putting together such a fantastic show - it was a pleasure to be a part of it. Also a pleasure: Portland’s many fine restaurants, book stores, and wooded areas.
Shields up! A teaser of my contribution to the Triforce Tribute show.
I’m thrilled to be part of a feature about graphic minimalism in the latest edition of the ludicrously well-designed Elephant Magazine, alongside such heavy-hitters such as Noma Bar, James Graham, Jason Munn and more.
I’m closing my print shop indefinitely this Sunday, and I’m also moving house! Consequently I’ve added a bunch of old/rare prints to my shop and there’s a 15% discount on all of it. It’s very unlikely that I’ll be selling any of this again for a long time, so you’ve got until Sunday to take advantage!
I’m enjoying seeing shots like this one, courtesy of Jon Tan, appear on Twitter and Flickr as those who kickstarted The Manual start receiving their contributor copies. Besides the book itself, you’ll also see the little enamel pin, a letterpress print, blind embossed bookmark, and (possibly my favourite), a set of Scout Books, which you can see in better detail here.
The Manual should go on general sale very soon, but until then, you can read a brief article I wrote about the design process over at It’s Nice That.
Got a big stack of my Herb Lester map in the post today. Photographed them and put a few in my shop.
Herb Lester Associates are a small publisher who put out thoughtfully considered, handsomely illustrated, modestly priced maps. I was thrilled to be asked to work on their latest release: a collection of wild places in London where nature has been allowed to take charge, known as Untamed London. Long story short - it looks like this, and you can pick one up here.
Killed sketch for a book cover that went west. Still a fan of the policeman (who has more than a touch of Officer Dibble about him) and the beefy marine chap.
Print Okushon is a new auction of work by tons of incredible designers and illustrators, with all proceeds going to the Japanese Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Fund.
I’ve contributed an artist proof of Celestial Feats (above), the first Gocco I made for Tiny Showcase back in 2009, which is long sold out. You can see that specific auction here, and all the prints here.
Right now myself and the rest of Evening Tweed are putting together a bunch of new work for Pick Me Up 2011, a contemporary graphic arts fair hosted at Somerset House. Last year’s was a tremendous amount of fun and the line-up suggests this year will be no different.
We’ll be constructing our own workspace for the run of the show, in which (among other things) I’ll be doing a bunch of live Gocco printing for the first time, so I’m looking forward to that going inevitably pear-shaped (I am only partly joking).
Pick Me Up runs from 17-27th March, and you can find the full line-up of artists and collectives involved (and pick up tickets in advance) right here. If you’re in London around that time, please come say hello!
So, this is exciting: I’m designing/art-directing a brand new print magazine about design on the web called The Manual. It’s masterminded by Andy McMillan, edited by Carolyn Wood, and the first issue contains contributions from Frank Chimero, Liz Danzico, Simon Collison, Jon Tan, and the Web Standardistas, not to mention a handful of fine illustrators to be confirmed in the coming months.
The first issue is being funded on Kickstarter, and will be as handsome as humanly possible. Scout’s honour.
